Camping gear and equipment
Before
a camper heads out to the great outdoors, there are a number of things
to do in preparation. Although there are some campers who want to experience
nature as much as possible, most people who camp want to have more than
just a sleeping bag and a campfire.
Camping gear and camping equipment are not hard to come by. Nearly
every big box retailer has it. However, finding quality camping gear
takes a little more looking and money. Typically the nicest gear and
equipment is sold at specialty camping stores such as REI.
For those who do not want the no-frills experience while camping, there
are some items that can come in handy:
• Sleeping bags – The type of sleeping
bag a person purchases depends on the type of camping he or she does.
For example, if a person is camping on a warm summer’s night,
a normal, loose sleeping bag will provide him or her with the comfort
he or she needs. These sleeping bags are usually made from cotton, which
makes them soft and comfortable.
On the other hand, if the camper is camping in the winter, perhaps
the mummy sleeping bags are better to use. These are called mummy sleeping
bags because they are form-fitting and leave little room for extra movement.
Although this may seem constricting, those who have ever camped out
in cold or snowy conditions know that the tighter the sleeping bag is,
the warmer the person inside.
• Camping tent – The type of camping tent
a person uses also often depends on how much he or she wants to “rough
it.” The simplest tents are pyramid-shaped and include four stakes
to keep the tent in place. There are sometimes no floors and no window
openings. A large slit in the front serves as the door.
Even though some like to use these kinds of tents, the majority of
people prefer tents that will allow them to have a little more room
and feel a little more comfortable. Some of the larger tents include
two or more rooms separated by zippered walls. These tents allow people
to have a little privacy, even if they are in close proximity.
Many of the larger tents also include zippered windows and mosquito
nets that help keep the bugs out. Each of these items helps make a person’s
camping experience more pleasant.
• Camping stoves – Camping stoves allow
campers the ability to cook without necessarily needing to create a
fire. Even though a campfire is synonymous with camping, it is not as
easy as some think it is. Having camping stoves as part of a backup
plan is always a good idea for those who want to make sure they will
be able to eat – campfire or not.
• Camping showers – Camping showers are
not typically needed for those who camp for only a night or so, but
those who take longer trips can use these portable camping showers to
get clean. Because these showers do not hold a lot of water, each person
who wants to use it usually must bring his or her own water.
